Vienna Airway Lab at the Long Night of Research 2026

For the first time, the Vienna Airway Lab participated in Austria's Lange Nacht der Forschung — and it turned out to be an unforgettable evening.
From the moment the doors opened, the curiosity was palpable. Families, students, and adults of all ages flooded the venue, eager to explore the world of science up close. What struck us most was the energy that simply refused to fade: even as the clock approached 11 p.m., the crowds kept coming, the questions kept flowing, and the enthusiasm never dimmed.
Our station invited visitors to take a closer look at something they carry with them every day — their nose. Guests explored the anatomy of the upper airway, learned about the surprising complexity of nasal function, and got hands-on with one of our most popular activities: mixing their own mucus models. It turns out that snot — the unsung hero of our respiratory defenses — is a fantastic conversation starter. Kids were delighted, parents were intrigued, and more than a few adults admitted they had no idea how fascinating airway physiology could be.
Moments like these are a powerful reminder of why science communication matters. When people get to touch, see, and experience science directly, something clicks — and that spark of curiosity is exactly what drives the next generation of scientists, clinicians, and engaged citizens.
A huge thank you to our team for staying until the very end — your dedication made the night possible.
Stay tuned for more outreach events and updates from the Vienna Airway Lab.
